Troy D. Abel, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Department of Environmental Studies
Huxley College of the Environment
Western Washington University

My professional interests encompass environmental policy, state and local government, and citizen participation.  In one strand of my scholarship, I focus on the development of environmental strategies in U.S. communities. Some of my more recent work also delves into the controversial field of environmental justice. Currently, I'm collaborating with Professors Michael Kraft (University of Wisconsin-Green Bay) and Mark Stephan (Washington State University-Vancouver) in the last year of a project supported by the National Science Foundation.  This research focuses on why some businesses do more to protect the environment.

Outside of the University, I serve as the American Editor for the International Journal of Environment and Pollution.  It is a refereed, international journal, published by Inderscience Enterprises Limited (Geneva, Switzerland) in eight issues per year, providing an international forum for scientific analyses and discussions in the field of environment and pollution.
